Favorite Local Fishing Spots Boca - good early and late shore fishing, trolling a favorite on the lake. Also shore fish the rocky sections of the stream inlet to the reservoir. Reports have Boca at about 85% of capacity this summer and that shore fishing is fruitful using inflated night crawlers for trout near the dam and inlet area. Switch to power bait and salmon eggs for rainbows. If trolling, try flashers and Kokanee bugs for Kokanee. Reports are that the Kokanee are much tougher and deeper this summer. Switch to a flasher/worm combination or minnow imitating lures for better success. Fly fisherman are doing fair with nymphs, mayfly, caddis and little yellow stone imitations or midges near the inlet. Davis Lake - early season reports had Davis at 99% of capacity. Fishing remains fair to good this summer. Expect the damsel migrations to slow. Donner Lake - reports currently have Donner at 98% of capacity. Shore fisherman can expect Browns and Rainbows dunking night crawlers, power bait, or salmon eggs near the boat ramp or the west end of the beach. Top liners have the best luck in in the shallow water using flasher/worm combinations or minnow imitating lures. Trollers go for Mackinaw as they feast on recent plants of rainbow. Use a minnow imitating lure or jig for the best results. Early on the macks may be found in the shallows. Echo Lakes - shore fish from the dam or go deep with a boat. Near Echo Summit. Fallen Leaf Lake - best from boat, illegal within 250 feet of dam. Frenchman's Reservoir - early reports had Frenchman's filled to capacity and flowing over the spillway. Fishing is currently fair to good. Jackson Meadows - Current reports have fishing poor due to high temperatures. Lake Tahoe - mack attacks in a boat, and deep! 5- 10 lbs macks make delicious eating and currently are biting well. Some macks may be found in shallow water during early season but most are found at the 200 foot level. Shore fishing is improving at this time, use inflated night crawlers. Top liners are finding increased success. Lake Tahoe Tributaries - it is illegal to fish the tributaries except from July 1 to September 30. The Little Truckee River - Fly fishing is the word here. Use nymphs, streamer and sporadic dry fly action early and late. Fish between Boca and Stampede. Martis Creek Reservoir - Martis is a zero kill lake . Catch and release fishing only using artificial lures with barb less hooks and no bait. Currently fishing is slow at best. Some success has been reported using a variety of nymphs, midges, and streamers. Also try wolly buggers, bead head nymphs, emergers, damsel nymphs, and blood midges. Prosser Creek Reservoir - reports currently have Prosser at 92% of capacity with fair fishing on shore. Try power bait, night crawlers, and salmon eggs. Trollers are also netting with success using flasher/worm combinations and minnow imitating lures. If fly fishing, try olive or black woolly buggers, nymphs, and midges. Stampede Reservoir - reports currently have Stampede at 95% of capacity with shore fishing netting browns and rainbows. Use inflated night crawlers, power bait or salmon eggs. If trolling, Kokanee is the catch. Use flasher/wedding rings and white corn combinations. If fly fishing use wooly buggers, nymphs, and midges near the the inlet streams. Upper Truckee River - fish the deep pools during the early part of the season. Reports for this summer have the river very fishable. Best bets are to fish the section of the river between Tahoe City and the River Ranch. Use power bait, salmon eggs, and worms. The Department of Fish and Game stocks this section of the river during the spring. The Wild Trout section is restricted to artificial lures or flies and is located below the town of Truckee from Trout Creek to the Boca Bridge.
