Stats on the Lake Tahoe Airport - Great Pilot Information Lake Tahoe Airport is located just three miles from the largest alpine lake in North America. Ten minutes away, in Stateline, Nevada, renowned resort gaming properties attract visitors from around the world. Heavenly, Kirkwood, and Sierra-at-Tahoe ski resorts are within easy access, providing the highest concentration of world-class ski facilities in the United States. Seven other ski areas, including Squaw Valley, Northstar and Alpine Meadows, are within an hour's drive around beautiful Lake Tahoe. Located in the Sierra Nevada mountains at an elevation of 6264' MSL, Lake Tahoe Airport has a single runway, 18 - 36, which is 8,544' long and 150' wide. The runway is serviced full length by a parallel taxiway and six connecting taxiways. The runway is constructed to serve dual-wheel aircraft at 125,000 pounds maximum gross landing weight. MD-80, B737, and BAe-146 aircraft have provided regularly scheduled service in past years. The Lake Tahoe Airport was constructed in 1958 to accommodate the growing demands for commercial air service to the Lake Tahoe community. A 30,000 square foot two-level airline terminal was built in 1972. Inside the terminal are car rental operators, a baggage conveyor system, ticket counters and offices, a restaurant, gift shop, and waiting and departure lounges. Vehicle parking just outside of the terminal building provides space for over 200 automobiles. Three gates access the commercial ramp from the lower level. Parking is available for Boeing 737 or MD-80 type jet aircraft along with commuter aircraft simultaneously. LDA-DME, VOR-DME, and GPS instrument approaches serve the airport. Standard instrument departures are published for both Runway 18 and 36. Southbound instrument departures require a minimum climb rate of 700' per nautical mile. An air traffic control tower provides weather, clearance, and traffic information from 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. daily. A 24-hour ASOS system is currently being commissioned. The Lake Tahoe Airport is located in an environmentally sensitive region. Stage 3 aircraft meeting local single event noise standards may operate at the airport from 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. (local time).
